Springfield bounce back as Old Boys face up to cup exit

Springfield 3-1 Old Southendian

OLD SOUTHENDIAN were unable to repeat last weekend’s ProKit UK Essex Olympian League Premier Division victory over leaders, Springfield when the pair went head-to-head in the Senior League Cup at Springfield Park Hall.

The home side led 2-0 at the break following a series of defensive errors and they added a third after the interval.

Nicolas Dubouchet pulled one back for the Old Boys, while several further opportunities were passed up as they looked to claw their way back into the contest. However, it was Springfield who progressed, much to the disappointment of the Seasiders manager, Connor Lane.

“We all came off the pitch feeling as though we lost the game as opposed to Springfield winning it,” Lane explained.

“We had more chances than they did, but you’ve got to put the ball in the back of the net – they achieved that better than we did!

“I’m proud of the team – we never threw the towel in. But we must be more ruthless in front of goal and cut out the defensive errors.”
