Spurs attacking options limited ahead of Leipzig clash

Tottenham Hotspur v RB Leipzig – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – UEFA Champions League Round of Sixteen (first-leg) – Wednesday 8pm

Tottenham Hotspur v RB Leipzig – Preview:

A fractured arm sustained by the influential Heung-Min Son has hugely hindered Tottenham Hotspur’s progress ahead of Wednesday evening’s UEFA Champions League Round of Sixteen first-leg clash with RB Leipzig in N17.

Son has joined Harry Kane as a long-term casualty after sustaining the injury during the early stages of the Lilywhites Premier League victory at Villa Park on Sunday.

Spurs Midfielder, Harry Winks, expressed his concern, explaining: “It’s a massive blow for us and he’s in such good form for us. Brings more than just his goals to the team. Brings his work rate and energy Massive loss to us but we have good enough players to fill in.”

“It’s important we don’t dwell on it as it’s not going to benefit us. We’ve found ways to dig in in the past.”

While Tottenham’s troubles are focused on the front line, Leipzig’s issues are at the other end of the field. Defenders, Willy Orban and Ibrahima Konate are injured, while Dayot Upamecano misses the match due to suspension.

Tottenham Hotspur v RB Leipzig – Head to head:

This will be the first time Tottenham Hotspur have faced RB Leipzig in any competitive form.

Die Roten Bullen were founded in 2009 after the Austrian-based company, Red Bull GmbH, purchased the playing rights of fifth-tier side SSV Markranstädt with the intent of advancing the new club to the top-flight Bundesliga.

Previously, Spurs faced RB’s City rivals, Lokomotive Leipzig, at the semi-final stage of the 1974 UEFA Cup – the Lilywhites winning 2-1 in East Germany thanks to goals from Ralph Coates and Martin Peters, then completing the task with a 2-0 success at White Hart Lane thanks to strikes from Martin Chivers and Chris McGrath.
