Shkendija 1-3 Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs negotiated their way past North Macedonian outfit, Shkendija but not until the hosts had given them a scare ten minutes after the break.
Erik Lamela set Spurs on their way with a neat fifth-minute finish. However, Valmir Nafiu’s fizzing strike beat debutant, Joe Hart, leaving the tie on a knife-edge.
But the North Londoners were to set up a play-off clash with Maccabi Haifa in N17. Heung-Min Son pounced to restore their earlier advantage. Then Harry Kane confirmed the victory in the closing stages.
Lilywhites boss, Jose Mourinho was naturally delighted with the result – his side starting to build momentum following a sluggish start to the season: “It is nice to win – three in a row even better – three in a row away from home even better,” the Portuguese explained.
“We just did our job. We did not play magnificently. We did our job in the end which is to qualify for the next round.”
