Women’s FA Cup – Fifth-Round
Arsenal Women v Lewes Women (1pm)
Arsenal are hoping to take another step toward their fifteenth SSE Women’s FA Cup triumph when they take on Lewes at Meadow Park in an eagerly anticipated fifth-round tie.
The Gunners warmed up for the clash with a hard-fought FAWSL victory over Liverpool – Vivianne Miedema bagging a brace – including the winner twelve minutes from time – and Jordan Nobbs also on target.
This ended a run of back-to-back defeats. Speaking to BBC Sport, Arsenal’s Dutch international, Miedema, explained: “You obviously start looking at the clock, but then you kind of know there is always going to be that one chance and luckily that came.
“From there on I didn’t have the feeling that we were going to give it away again.
Visitors, Lewes, occupy eighth place in the FA Women’s Championship and arrive as huge underdogs. They reached this stage of the competition after seeing off Billericay Town in a dramatic penalty shootout. Arsenal progressed following a comfortable victory over West Ham United.
