Stoke City v Tottenham Hotspur – Carabao Cup Quarter-Final – Bet365 Stadium – Wednesday 8pm – Preview
Jose Mourinho will not be taking Championship outfit, Stoke City, lightly when his Tottenham Hotspur side visits the Potteries in the last eight of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.
The Lilywhtes title charge has taken a hit of late following back-to-back defeats at the hands of Liverpool and Leicester City. And despite cup progress offering a timely shot in the arm, Mourinho remained cautious and mindful that there are still hurdles to overcome if Spurs are to end their wait for silverware.
“If I am not wrong, Man City, Arsenal, Man United. Everton, Newcastle, Brentford, everybody wants the same,” the Spurs boss explained.
“The difference between Championship and Premier League is minimal.
“The teams are very good, they have very good players and have very good coaches. So even the fact we play Stoke, or Newcastle play Brentford, does not give us easier matches than the others.
“It is a difficult competition to win. We need to win three matches. But going in the direction from what we are saying from the beginning of the season. The next match is a match we want to win, and the next match is Stoke.”
Mourinho is expected to rotate his squad, but perhaps not as much as he has between Premier League and Europa League ties: “I think a mixture. I think we need some players who need to play and deserve to play,” he added.
“From the ones that are playing more times, others where we don’t have great options to make changes and have to keep them – but I will try to give a little bit of a rest to two or three.”
Jeevesie’s prediction: Stoke City 0-3 Tottenham Hotspur
