Strictly judge to make guest appearance in Havens Hospices virtual quiz

The head judge from TV’s Strictly Come Dancing will be making a special appearance in Havens Hospices’ final virtual quiz.

Shirley Ballas has recorded a question for the charity’s quiz which will take place on Tuesday June 23 at 8pm and will be presented once again by patron and Radio Essex presenter Su Harrison.

Havens Hospices’ virtual quiz night has been running every Tuesday at 8pm for the past eight weeks during lockdown and has so far raised an incredible £13,700 for the charity to replace some of the income that has been lost due to events being cancelled during the pandemic.

Hundreds of people have joined the quiz each week, paying a minimum donation of £3 which supports the charity in continuing its palliative and supportive care to children and adults living with complex or incurable conditions.

Little Havens, based in Thundersley is the only children’s hospice in Essex and provides palliative and supportive care to babies, children and their families from across the county.

Judy Grocott, voluntary income manager at Havens Hospices hopes to end on a high and beat the charity’s target of raising £15,000.

“We don’t charge a penny for our care – and that’s only possible because of donations from people like our quizzers,” said Judy.

“We have raised an astounding £13,700 so far but would love it if we could smash our target of £15,000.

“A huge thank you to everyone who has signed up to take part over the past few weeks – it has been a lot of fun and certainly what we needed during this difficult times whilst we have been stuck at home.

“The past couple of months have been tough for our charity with our income falling just as demand for our specialist care continued to increase.

“The hospices are continuing to care for patients at the end of their life and your support and kind donations help us to continue ‘Making every day count’ for everyone who receives our care – so thank you on behalf of everyone from Havens Hospices.”

To help the charity reach their target, sign up at Entry to the quiz is a minimum donation of £3 person and once registered, an email will be sent with details on how to enter the quiz on the night.
