Super Bees win eight-goal FA Trophy thriller

Buildbase FA Trophy first qualifying round

BASILDON UNITED made thrilling Buildbase FA Trophy progress after winning an eight-goal first qualifying round extravaganza with Chesham United at the Cousins Carwash Stadium.

The Bees trailed by a goal to nil at the break but spectacularly turned the tie on its head, scoring five times after the interval. Ayomikun Odukoya bagged a brace, while, Ernest Okoh, Adam Vyse and Harry Norman confirmed a memorable victory for the Newtowners.

Aveley are in the hat following an impressive 3-0 win over Bowers & Pitsea at Parkside. Alexander Akrofi, Jason Raad and a Kenzer Lee own-goal sending the Millers through. Hornchurch are also still on the Wembly trail – Charlie Stimson scoring twice and Marvin Morgan also on target as the Urchins cam from behind to beat Berkhamsted.

Michael Ademiluyi, Chiduben Onokwai and Jorge Djassi -Sambu were Haringey Borough’s marksmen as Horsham were sung by three goals without reply. East Thurrock also progressed – Early strikes from Alex Clark and Frankie Merrifield enough to see off Cheshunt by the odd goal in three. Maldon & Tiptree continued their good form on all fronts by dispatching Cray Wanderers 3-0 – Danny Parish (2) and Jorome Slew for the Jammers.

Barking will try again after their tie with Margate at Mayesbrook Park ended goalless, as will Canvey Island who played out an exciting 3-3 draw at Chipstead. Tobi Joseph and a pair from Jason Hallett ensuring the replay.

Tilbury slipped out of the FA Trophy after a 4-3 defeat at Metropolitan Police. Brian Moses, Marlon Agyakwa and Ola Ogunwamide with the Dockers goals. Meanwhile, Alex Teniola’s strike was insufficient for Heybridge Swifts who went down 2-1 at home against Potters Bar Town. Brightlingsea Regent also lost 2-1 – An own-goal from Jake Turner the North Essex sides consolation as Royston Town went through.

Vanarama National League

Dagenham & Redbridge returned to winning ways with an impressive 2-1 success against struggling Wrexham at Victoria Road. Angelo Balanta and
Chike Kandi was on target for the Daggers either side of a Bobby Grant goals for the Welshmen. Peter Taylor’s men move up to tenth as a result.

Vanarama National League South

It proved to be a tough weekend for the regions National South clubs. Sam Higgins fired Chelmsford City ahead against Dulwich Hamlet at the Melbourne Stadium only for Christian Smith to earn the south Londoners a point shortly after the break.

Braintree Town disappointingly went down 3-0 at Weymouth, while both Billericay Town and Concord Rangers lost 2-1 – Doug Loft scored for the Blues at Maidstone United, while a Billy Roast strike wasn’t enough for the Beach Boys at Havant & Waterlooville.

BetVictor Isthmian League North Division

Witham Town claimed a welcome 3-1 success over Felixstow & Walton United. Marcus Bowers and a George Bugg brace enough for the home side.

Abdus Salamiand a last-gasp Michael Toner penalty earned Brentwood Town a share of the spoils against Great Wakering Rovers at the Brentwood Arena. Joshua Wiggins scored twice in five second-half minutes for the Rovers in a pulsating 2-2 draw.

A goal from Inesh Sumithran wasn’t enough to prevent Romford slipping to a 3-1 defeat at Bury Town, while Joseph Wright scored for Hullbridge Sports in their 2-1 loss at Histon.

Essex Senior League

Goals galore in the ESL with Cockfosters and Sporting Bengal United leading the way with a nine-goal thriller at Chalk Lane which saw the home side win 5-4.

Redbridge thrashed Enfield by four goals to nil, while Walthamstow won 4-1 at Southend Manor and Hoddesdon Town replicated that scoreline by dispatching Saffron Walden Town.

League leaders, Hashtag United, eased to a 3-1 win over Clapton while Stanstead remains in touch by edging out Tower Hamlets 3-2. Hadley were 2-0 winners at Takeley. Elsewhere, St Margaretsbury and Sawbridgeworth Town drew 1-1.

ProKit UK Essex Olympian League

Buckhurst Hill was in superb Premier Division form, thrashing Rayleigh Town by six goals to one. Meanwhile, Sungate went one better, winning 7-1 at Harold Wood Athletic.

Leigh Ramblers hit five unanswered goals past Bishop’s Stortford Swifts, while Basildon Town had just enough to see off Catholic United 3-2. Struggling Old Southendian recorded a welcome 2-1 victory over Canning Town at Garon Park and there was a 3-1 win for Shenfield AFC over Kelvedon Hatch.

Chingford Town won an exciting Division One clash at FC Hamlets by three goals to two. Herongate Athletic also to maximum points in that division with a 3-0 success over Toby FC. Snaresbrooke’s clash with Shoebury Town finished all square at 3-3.

Corinthians were the big winners in Division Two, beating May & Baker Eastbrook Community Reserves 5-2 at the Stambridge Memorial Ground. There was also a cracker at Cupid where Wakering Sports and Harold Wood Athletic Reserves drew 3-3.

Hutton’s second string were 6-2 winners over their White Ensign counterparts in Division Three, while in Division Four Chingford Athletic’s Development side annihilated Catholic United’s Reserves 14-0.
