Essex found themselves on the wrong end of the result as temperatures soared at the LSE Sportsground, New Malden and hosts’ Surrey recorded an eight-wicket victory.

Looking to bounce back following back-to-back defeats at the hands of Kent and Sussex, Essex posted 145/5, with SJD Burgess and Aron Nijjar each scoring 32 off 23 and 34 deliveries respectively. Jack Plom was also in the runs, finishing unbeaten on 31 following a seventeen-minute stint at the crease – Former Essex left-arm medium-fast man, Reece Topley amongst the wickets for the home side.

Surrey wasted little time in knocking off the runs required. Will Jacks (68 off 28 balls), Ben Geddes – unbeaten on 65 from 35 – put on 126 for the first wicket. The target was reached off the penultimate ball of the twelfth over – Plom and Aaron Beard the only Essex bowlers to register any success.
