Old Southendian & Southchurch’s second string maintained their steady start to the season with a four-wicket victory over their struggling Orsett & Thurrock counterparts.

Callum Powrie returned figures of three for 37, while Sam Hodgson, Asham Khan and Kaelan Williams claimed two-wicket hauls as the home side were dismissed for 154. O’Neill’s fifty off 90 balls was the highlight of the hosts’ innings.

The chase proved to be far from plain sailing. The old Boys found themselves on 65/4. However, Blake Sutheran’s unbeaten 72 carried the visitors home, leaving them fourth in the table after as many matches.
