Swifts swoop to hit Old Boys

Bishop’s Stortford Swifts 5-2 Old Southendian

Old Southendian found themselves on the wrong end as Bishop’s Stortford Swifts inflicted their first Essex Olympian League Premier Division defeat following a goal-filled encounter at Silver Leys.

The Old Boys started well with Mitch Ali and Nick Henesey seemingly handing them an unassailable two-goal advantage.

However, Swifts roared back to inflict a first defeat of the season on the Garon Park outfit. Sam Chaney bagged an impressive hat-trick, while Archie Gerard and substitute, Toluwani Osiyemi was also on target, securing a 5-2 triumph.

The late dismissal of goalkeeper, Peter Loveday rubbed salt in the wound for the visitors

“We conceded very similar goals, leaving our backline exposed,” boss, Altan Ali bemoaned.

“We were 3-2 down at half-time and changed the shape a little which made us appear more comfortable. We started to get back on top and create chances.

“It was a bad day at the office although I don’t think it was an especially fair reflection of the game.”

On the red card, Ali added: “One of those things. We’ve got no complaints about the red card for Pete. I thought the referee had a good game.”
