Carshalton Athletic v Dagenham & Redbridge – Colston Avenue – Emirates FA Cup fourth qualifying round – Saturday 3pm
Peter Taylor is fully aware of the importance of the Emirates FA Cup and particularly to his own Dagenham & Redbridge side.
The Vanarama National League outfit travel to BetVictor Isthmian League Premier Division side, Carshalton Athletic, for a fourth qualifying round tie – the winners going into the hat with clubs from Sky Bet LeagueOne and Two, who join the competition at the first round proper stage.
Speaking to www.daggers.co.uk, Taylor said: “These days (it’s) very very important – even more important for clubs like ourselves.
“We are always trying to do well in the FA Cup – eventually, you try to go further into the rounds and get drawn against a money-spinner – that has always been the plan.
“Now, all of a sudden, there is even more incentive because I think the reward for getting through a round is good these days. It is good that the FA are spreading the money around for clubs like ourselves.”
Despite the Daggers heading to Colston Avenue as favourites, the former England interim chief was ready for a tough battle: “We desperately want to win a match. We know it’s going to be a tough one – it’s a bit of a banana skin against Carshalton, only because they are classed as a level below us in the league that they are in.
“We know it is going to be a very difficult game and we know that they’ll be one hundred per cent up for it. They are going to test us left, right and centre.”
