Dagenham & Redbridge v Yeovil Town – Vanarama National League – Chigwell Construction Stadium – Report

Dagenham & Redbridge 0-2 Yeovil Town

Ten-man Dagenham & Redbridge went down to a 2-0 defeat to Yeovil town at the Chigwell Construction Stadium after Harry Phipps was dismissed on the half-hour mark.

Daggers started strongly but just nine minutes into the match were forced to make an early substitution after a head injury to Sam Ling.

The first chance of the game went to Daggers when Josh Walker got on the end of Josh Hare’s cross, only for his strike to go just wide of the post.

Phipps challenge on Matt Worthington in the box saw him shown the red card by referee Alan Dale, who also awarded Yeovil Town a penalty for the challenge. Jordan Maguire-Drew stepped up to despatch the spot kick past Elliot Justham to put the visitors 1-0 up.

Dagenham & Redbridge pushed forward in search of an equaliser and created several chances before half-time but were unable to break down the Glovers’ determined defence.

Ten minutes into the second half, Hare’s cross found substitute Paul McCallum in the box only for his volley to be well saved and held by Yeovil’s keeper Grant Smith.

Junior Morais shot from the edge of the area was close to getting Daggers back on level terms in the seventy-first minute, only to fly narrowly wide of the post.

With just ten minutes left on the clock, Worthington made it 2-0 with a magnificent twenty-five-yard strike past Justham to seal Yeovil’s first away win of the season, three points that now move his team up into eighteenth place in the table.

Certainly, it was a day to forget for Daggers, who despite the defeat remain in seventh spot – just inside the play-off places.

Dagenham & Redbridge return to Vanarama National League action on Saturday, February 4 when they travel to Wealdstone (3pm).
