Eintracht Frankfurt v West Ham United – UEFA Europa League semi-final second-leg – Deutsche Bank Park – Report

Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 West Ham United

(Eintracht Frankfurt won 3-1 on aggregate)

Ten-man West Ham United suffered UEFA Europa League heartbreak as Eintracht Frankfurt completed a semi-final double over David Moyes’ men at the Deutsche Bank Park.

Aaron Cresswell saw red for the second time in the competition after Spanish referee, Jesús Gil Manzano was invited to look at the monitor after wrestling Jens Petter Hauge to the ground after the Eintracht man had appeared to wriggle clear on goal.

Holding a 2-1 lead from the first leg at the London Stadium, Eintracht extended their advantage seven minutes later when Rafael Borre rifled home after Ansgar Knauff’s l had centred.

Floored by two sizable blows, West Ham showed spirit but lacked the energy to recover the situation. Moyes followed Cresswell down the tunnel following a pitchside fracas. Meanwhile, Michail Antonio and Declan Rice forced Eintracht stopper, Kevin Trapp into routine saves, while Tomas Soucek nodded a golden opportunity the wrong side of an upright as the East Londoners ran out of time.

The Germans held firm to book a final berth with Rangers, who edged out RB Leipzig at Ibrox. Meanwhile, West Ham now turn their attention back to the Premier League where they face already relegated Norwich City at carrow Road on Sunday, May 8 (2pm).
