The Hammers headed to the East Midlands without a league win in five and having slipped out of the Emirates FA Cup at the hands of Championship outfit Bristol City.

Moyes is a man under pressure: “It’s not an easy place to go,” the Scotsman explained.

“We lost there on the opening day of last season, and we felt bad because we thought we deserved more from the game.

“It’s a great atmosphere at the City Ground. I think everyone was thrilled to see Nottingham Forest come back to the Premier League because of the history that everyone remembers really well, and we’re excited for what promises to be an entertaining occasion.”

But it turned out to be an afternoon to forget for the Esat Londoners. Taiwo Awoniyi gave Forest the lead in first-half stoppage time following some sloppy defending.

Five minutes into added time at the end of the match, Forest sealed the deal when former Chelsea frontman Callum Hudson-Odoi added a deserved second for the home side.

In between, on-loan midfielder, Kalvin Phillips, was given his marching orders after picking up a second yellow card.

The angry travelling Hammers support vigorously called for Moyes’ departure as the contest drew to a sorry conclusion. West Ham United return to Premier League action on Monday, February 26 when Brentford visits the London Stadium (8pm).
