A bright future for Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club

The future of Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club looks remarkably bright following a string of notable achievements from their successful junior section during the 2021 season.

A sound coaching team is ably assisted by a rich array of willing adult and junior volunteers. Coupled with the talent at their disposal, the Gallow Corner outfit has gained significant momentum, providing a platform to grow and achieve both on and off the field over the past twelve months.

Gidea Park’s junior teams fulfilled more than eighty fixtures during the 2021 season, fulfilling their sizable commitments to the Essex Met Midweek and Sunday Cup competitions.

The pathway provided was highlighted as no less than thirteen junior members represented the club at adult level, making significant contributions to their respective sides’ success.

Phil Ayres, supported by a team of qualified activators, including Alan Rand, Natalie Daniels, Jack Roberts and Henry Sessions, oversaw the smooth running of Gidea Park’s biggest-ever All-Stars programme, with many of those transitioning into their Mini-Hitters section.

A girls-only Dynamos programme was successfully launched under the watchful eye of Jamal Francis and subsequently continued under the guidance of Richard Wall, running as part of their winter nets programme and transitioning into their Trailblazers group.

Meanwhile, a popular Friday night ladies softball cricket session enhanced the clubs’ ambitious and forward-thinking methods, providing cricket for everyone.

Initially, the sessions were undertaken once a month by Alicia from Essex Cricket in the Community, aimed towards mums and their friends while the junior squads were training.

However, with demand high, this was increased to an open session on a fortnightly basis. The aim of each session is primarily to have fun, learn new skills and develop knowledge of the game. The aspiration going forward is to grow women’s and junior girls’ cricket across the club.

Proposed ladies softball cricket dates for the 2022 Season are as follows:

April 29 – May 27 – June 10 and 24 – July 15 and 29 – August 12- September 2.
