Three arrested in connection with phone theft and criminal damage in Chelmsford

Three people were arrested after the theft of mobile phones and criminal damage to a shop in Chelmsford.

Officers responded to reports of a high-valued theft received at 2.20pm on Friday September 22 when a group of up-to eight men entered the Vodafone shop in High Street, Chelmsford, causing a disturbance.

It was reported that members of the group damaged displays, causing more than £7,000 worth of damage before leaving the store with several new phones valued at more than £4,000.

Officers immediately searched the area, linking in with colleagues from British Transport Police, after the group made off in the direction of the train station.

A 19-year-old man was arrested in Arbour Lane, just 20 minutes later, followed by two more at the same location soon after.

Two men. aged 23 and 19. and a 17-year-old teenage boy, all from London, have been released on bail until November whilst enquiries continue.
