Thursby focused on the positives despite Old Boys setback

Old Southendian 0-1 Bishop’s Stortford Swifts

Old Southendian Coach, Ollie Thursby, focused on the positives after witnessing his side slip to an opening day ProKit UK Essex Olympian League Premier Division defeat to a solid Bishop’s Stortford Swifts side at Garon Park.

Olly Fortune’s crisp early strike proved decisive. The Old Boys enjoyed plenty of possession but ultimately failed to provide a viable goal threat on what proved to be a frustrating afternoon.

Conor Burrows and Ryan Stillwell provided the home sides best moments in front of goal, but a resolute Swifts side were not to be breached.

“It was not a great game for the neutral – very much a 0-0 type game, I thought – but fair play to the opposition they got the goal and were solid after that,” Thursby told Yellow Sport.

“We will continue to grow, we have an excellent squad, willing to learn and run themselves into the ground for each other, showing an excellent togetherness.

“No doubt we will improve under the current coaching team and will be fighting ready for Rayleigh Town in a fortnight.”
