Tomas the tormentor toppled Topola

K TSC Bačka Topola v West Ham United – UEFA Europa League Group A – TSC Arena – Report

FK TSC Bačka Topola 0-1 West Ham United

A late goal from Tomas Soucek ensured West Ham United a narrow victory over the Serbian outfit FK TSC Bačka Topola and left them topping UEFA Europa League Group A ahead of their final game with Freiburg at the London Stadium in a fortnight.

David Moyes was aware of the task in-hand: “We’re aware of FK TSC’s good form,” the Scotsman said.

“I find every game in Europe difficult. Nothing is easy and we’re fully aware of the very good result they had at the weekend.

“TSC played very well at London Stadium in the opening game in the group. I thought it was a good game, but fortunately, we got the result.

“We respect all the opponents we play. We’ll come here tomorrow and try and win because we’re in a strong position in the group.”

The game offered very little in the way of goalmouth action. Nevertheless, the East Londoners dominated possession in an otherwise dull encounter.

The game looked set for a stalemate before Soucek struck. The Czech midfielder arrived to meet Maxwel Cornet’s cross at the far post. It was the Hammers’ only attempt on target of the evening, but sufficient to claim the contest and send Moyes’ men to the top of the group.

West Ham United now turn their attention to the Premier League where they face Crystal Palace at the London Stadium on Sunday, December 3 (2pm).
