New Zealand’s bowlers were provided with a workout on day two of their Four-Day Friendly Match against a County Select XI at the Cloud County Ground, Chelmsford.
Having declared on 362/9, the tourists used seven bowlers – Ajaz Patel took three wickets for 32, while Blair Tickner (2/50) and Kyle Jamieson (2/76) as the County XI were reduced to 247.
Nottinghamshire’s Lyndon James top-scored with 52 off 109 balls. Tom Haines scored 42 and Ben Compton 39, while Essex’s Jamie Porter hit a quickfire 31 off 35.
The tourists navigated a single over before the close. earlier, Matt Henry had retired out on 65. He and Cameron Fletcher put together an unbeaten ninth-wicket stand of 79. Play resumes on Friday at 11am.
