The Only Way Is Essex’s Bobby Norris visited South Essex College to speak to students about his campaign to combat online trolling.

Bobby launched his #EndTheTrend2Troll campaign to make online homophobia a specific criminal offence after being the victim of online abuse himself.

His petition gained more than 100,000 signatures meaning it secured a debate in parliament which is being dubbed ‘Bobby’s Bill’.

As part of his campaign, Bobby visited the college’s Southend Campus to speak to students to raise awareness about the important issue.

He held a discussion in the Pod where students were invited to speak about their experiences online and ask Bobby questions about the campaign.

Amanda Looker, Team Leader (Enrichment and Learner Voice) said it was an invaluable opportunity for students to be part of an important movement.

She said: “It was great to see so many student get involved and ask insightful and thought provoking questions.

“Our campaign for this year is ‘Dare to Dream’ which encourages our students to be who they want to be without fear of prejudice or discrimination, which is why we are keen to support Bobby’s campaign.”
