Town clip Concord’s wings

Braintree Town v Concord Rangers – Vanarama National League South – Cressing Road – Report

Braintree Town 1-0 Concord Rangers

Braintree Town dominated throughout as they continued their unbeaten home National League record at Cressing Road defeating struggling Concord Rangers 1-0 to once again move up into the play-off places.

The Iron were awarded a penalty as early as the second minute when Alfie Pavey was brought down in the area, only for Lamar Reynolds to see his spot kick saved by Beachboys keeper Mitchell Beeney, who then also denied Willie Clemons from the rebound.

With Concord rarely threatening, it was one-way traffic for Braintree who saw Jack Turner, Reynolds and Kyron Farrell all fail to convert chances before Clemons had a goal ruled out for offside and Joe Boachie head against the bar just before the break.

The Iron went close again early in the second half when Jimmy Wallace kicked the ball off the line to keep out Reynolds’ effort after he had been put through by Alfie Payne.

Braintree finally took the lead just after the hour mark when Reynolds picked up the ball following loose Concord possession, to send substitute Aaron Blair, introduced only minutes earlier by Angelo Harrop, through to fire past Beeney.

Chris Regis almost doubled the lead minutes shortly after coming on as substitute himself, only to see his volley fly just wide of the post.

Although Concord had chances to equalise near the end when Ben Williamson headed straight at Jack Sims and Mo Bettamer nodded just wide of the post, the Braintree defence held on with ease to see the Iron claim the three points.

Braintree Town’s thoughts now turn to the visit of Dulwich Hamlet to Cressing Road on Tuesday, February 14 (7.45pm) whilst Concord Rangers are next in action on Saturday 18 at Tonbridge Angels (3pm).
