Town too strong for Old Boys

Basildon Town 3-1 Old Southendian

High-flying Basildon Town proved too strong for Old Southendian as the seaside outfit concluded a frustrating ProKit UK Essex Olympian League Premier Division campaign.

Michael Clark, Marcus Bowers and Grant Cummings netted for the new towners – Ed Gould’s strike of little consolation to the Old Boys, who finished at the foot of the table with just two victories to their name during teh campaign.

Old Boys boss, Connor Lane told Yellow Sport: “We had to call in some last-minute recruits and tried to continue our recent form, which has improved.

“Trying to utilise a more patient style appeared to be paying off when Gouldy gave us the lead. But Basildon are near the top for a reason and ultimately were too strong for us.

“We will be returning for pre-season training shortly and will look to rebuild ahead of next season with renewed optimism.”
