Police have arrested two men on suspicion of aggravated burglary following a 999 call in Basildon on Tuesday August 18.
Officers received reports at 1.19pm that a man had forced his way into a property in Emanuel Road before making demands for items and threatening two people inside.
Five minutes later police were by behind the vehicle and in pursuit.
The car drove the wrong way along the A130 before being abandoned in Rawreth.
A 29-year-old man from Broxbourne and a 54-year-old man from Southend were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
The Southend man was also arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop.
They have been bailed until Tuesday September 15.
