COLCHESTER UNITED have bolstered their defensive options with the signing of experienced defender, Tommy Smith.
The New Zealand international arrives in North Essex following a short spell at Sunderland. The 30-year-old made his name with the U’s local rivals, Ipswich Town, where he made 267 appearances during a ten-year stint at Portman Road.
Previously, Smith played six times for Colchester whilst on loan during the 2010/11 campaign.
Meanwhile, Colchester boss, Steve Ball ran the rule over goalkeeper, Shamal George, during a double-header with Peterborough United at the JobServe Community Stadium. The stopper was released by Liverpool at the end of last season.
