U’s edge clear of the dropzone thanks to Read’s winner

Morecambe v Colchester United – Sky Bet League Two – The Mazuma Mobile Stadium – Report

Morecambe 0-1 Colchester United

Colchester United extended their unbeaten Sky Bet League Two sequence to three matches with a hard-fought single-goal success at Morecambe.

This was the U’s first victory under the management of Danny and Nicky Cowley. Arthur Read came up with the all-important strike, sending home a brilliant free-kick just before the half-hour mark.

U’s goalkeeper, Owen Goodman, played his part by saving a Gerard Garner penalty after Riley Harbottle was penalised for a foul on Jake Taylor.

The victory moved Colchester seven points clear of the bottom two. They return to Sky Bet League Two action on Saturday, February 3 when Forest Green Rovers visit the JobServe Community Stadium (3pm).
