Swindon Town v Colchester United – Sky Bet League Two – The County Ground – Report

Swindon Town 2-2 Colchester United

Colchester United manager Danny Cowley witnessed his new charges recover a two-goal deficit to earn a well-deserved share of the Sky Bet League Two spoils with Swindon Town at the County Ground.

Cowley took charge at the JobServe Community Stadium on Thursday but appears to have had an immediate effect on a side hovering precariously above the relegation zone having previously won just one of their last nine in the league.

Nevertheless, it was far from a perfect start for the U’s. Charlie Austin fired Swindon ahead from the penalty spot after Udoka Godwin-Malife was fouled by Marley Marshall-Miranda. And the U’s were left with work to do when Tom Brewitt doubled the host’s advantage two minutes before the interval.

But Colchester were quick to respond. Matt Jay headed home following a Noah Chilvers to set up a tense second half.

Colchester completed their dramatic comeback four minutes into stoppage-time when Bradley Ihionvien bundled home following a goalmouth scramble after another Chilvers’ flag-kick.

The result moved the U’s six points clear of teh dropzone. They return to Sky Bet League Two action on Saturday, January 13, when Bradford City visit the JobServe Community Stadium (3pm).
