U’s give Mullins a lift by seeing off Scunthorpe

Colchester United v Scunthorpe United – Sky Bet League Two – JobServe Community Stadium – Report

Colchester United 2-1 Scunthorpe United

Early goals from Freddie Sears and Armando Dobra helped Colchester United to only their third Sky Bet League Two victory of the season, lifting some of the pressure on manager Hayden Mullins.

Former West Ham United man, Sears provided an exquisite fifth-minute finish and Ipswich loanee Dobra doubled the advantage nine minutes later with a delightful curling effort to all but see off bottom of the table Scunthorpe at the JobServe.

Harry Davis pulled one back for the visitors in the closing stages. However, it was too little too late for the Iron. The U’s moved up to seventeenth place, five points clear of the dropzone as a result.

Colchester United now turn their attention to the Emirates FA Cup first round when they travel to AFC Sudbury on Friday, November 5 (7:45pm).
