U’s go down at in-form Mansfield

Mansfield Town v Colchester United – Sky Bet League Two – One Call Stadium – Report

Mansfield Town 2-1 Colchester United

Colchester United’s recent Sky Bet League Two revival was concluded by in-form Mansfield Town at the One Call Stadium.

The U’s headed north unbeaten in four. However, despite a battling performance, they were unable to extend that particular sequence with the Stags running out winners by the odd goal in three.

Rhys Oates fired Mansfield ahead during the opening period, but they had to wait until stoppage time to double their advantage. Jordan Bowery sent U’s stopper, Sam Hornby the wrong way from the spot after Tom Eastman had tripped Ollie Clarke.

Alan Judge reduced the arrears with a brilliant free-kick. But Colchester had run short on time. They return to Sky Bet League Two action on Saturday, February 12 when Carlisle United visit the JobServe Community Stadium (3pm).
