U’s recruit experienced frontman Akinde

Colchester United have confirmed the signing of experienced frontman, John Akinde after the player agreed to terminate his contract at Gillingham.

The 32-year-old has represented several clubs, notably Bristol City, Barnet and Lincoln City, netting 173 goals in a career spanning 553 matches.

Akinde will remain at Colchester until the summer of 2024. Speaking to www.cu-fc.com, Interim Head Coach, Wayne Brown enthused: “I think he’ll be a great asset for us.

“He will give us a different dynamic that I think we have been missing so far this season, a presence and experience – but more importantly, we’re hoping that he’s going to bring us goals.”
