Harrogate Town 3-0 Colchester United

Troubled Colchester United remain embroiled in a Sky Bet League Two relegation battle after meekly slipping to defeat at in-form Harrogate Town.

The U’s are seven points above the dropzone but showed little signs of extending that advantage against a Harrogate side keen to bounce back following Saturday’s defeat to Stevenage and record a seventh league victory in ten outings.

It’s now seven away matches since Colchester found the net. They were behind within the first minute – Mark Beck beating Shamal George with a curling effort.

Will Smith doubled the hosts’ advantage in first-half stoppage-time, while Josh McPake killed the contest just before the hour.

Skipper, Tommy Smith hit an upright with the U’s best opportunity. They return to Sky Bet League Two action on Saturday, March 13 when they take on bottom of the table Grimsby Town at Blundell Park (5:30pm).
