U’s slip into the bottom two

Tranmere Rovers v Colchester United – Sky Bet League One – Prenton Park – Report

Tranmere Rovers 1-1 Colchester United

Colchester United slipped into the Sky Bet League Two relegation zone despite extending their recent unbeaten sequence to five matches following a 1-1 draw with Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park.

Indeed, it seems somewhat ironic that the U’s find themselves fighting for their lives having enjoyed their best form of the season. Games in hand will prove crucial to the U’s, particularly with relegation rivals Forest Green Rovers and Sutton United seemingly finding their feet at the same time.

Having come from behind to see off Newport County on Good Friday, Colchester again found themselves chasing the game when Kieron Morris netted from close range in the seventh minute to hand hosts Tranmere the lead.

However, the Birkenhead club held their advantage for barely a minute before Alistair Smith restored parity.

Cameron McGeehan hit the woodwork shortly after the interval. The result saw Colchester slip second from bottom, with three games in hand over Sutton, two over Forest Green and one over Grimsby Town.

The U’s return to Sky Bet League Two action on Saturday, April 6 when Wrexham visits the JobServe Community Stadium (3pm).
