U’s stalemate at Mariners

Grimsby Town 0-0 Colchester United

Struggling Colchester United played out a goalless draw with bottom of the table Grimsby Town to keep themselves seven points clear of the Sky Bet League Two dropzone.

In a tense, untidy encounter Julien Lamy and Filipe Morais had early chances for the hosts, while Harry Pell forced a save from Mariners stopper, James McKeown as the U’s responded.

Colchester was left incensed after Jay Matete’s ugly challenge on Ryan Clampin – the Grimsby man only branded yellow card as teh U’s players protested a stronger punishment.

Rollin Menayese was a fraction off target, while Lenell John-Lewis hit the bar as Grimsby continued to create the lions share of the chances.

Pell twice went close after the break, while Callum Harriott was thwarted as honours ended even.
