Salford City v Colchester United – Sky Bet League Two – Peninsula Stadium – Report
Salford City 0-3 Colchester United
Colchester United ended their seven-match winless Sky Bet League Two run with a stunning 3-0 victory over play-off contenders, Salford City at the Peninsula Stadium.
Having sacked beleaguered boss, Hayden Mullins following their midweek defeat at Sutton United, Wayne Brown took charge, bidding to guide the North Essex outfit away from the foot of the table.
And the interim manager got off to the perfect start. Luke Chambers flicked an Alan Judge free-kick over Salford stopper, King to open the scoring after half an hour.
Three minutes later it was 2-0. Debutant, Myles Kenlock was on hand to finish after Judge’s corner had been nodded on by Chambers.
Colchester looked remarkably comfortable and finished the job eight minutes from time. Corie Andrews profiting from Freddie Sears’ toil to add a third.
The result moved Colchester six points clear of the relegation zone. They return to Sky Bet League Two action on Saturday, January 29 when Swindon Town visit the JobServe Community Stadium (3pm)
