U’s survival fight will go to the last day

Colchester United v Doncaster Rovers – Sky Bet League Two – JobServe Community Stadium – Report

Colchester United 1-4 Doncaster Rovers

Colchester United’s Sky Bet League Two status remains very much in the balance after they were thrashed 4-1 by in-form play-off contenders Doncaster Rovers at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Jayden Fevrier profited from Tom Hopper’s toil to give Colchester a ninth-minute lead. However, Rovers, chasing a tenth-successive league victory, roared back before the break thanks to Luke Molyneux’s thumping strike, followed by Harrison Biggins’ close-range effort.

With goal difference potentially a worrying factor for the U’s, their troubles deepened when Tom Anderson made it 3-1 fourteen minutes from time.

Joe Ironside added a fourth shortly before the end. Colchester United take on Crewe Alexandra at the JobServe Community Stadium on Saturday, April 27 (3 pm), needing a single point to avoid relegation.
