Vinicius double helps Spurs to an easy Europa success

Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Ludogorets Razgrad

Much-changed Spurs took another step towards UEFA Europa League progression with a routine four-goal demolition of Bulgarian outfit Ludogorets Razgrad at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The North Londoners were never really troubled. Gareth Bale tested the water with a couple of early dead-ball efforts, while Carlos Vinicius and Dele Ali fizzed wide as Spurs made their intentions known. But it was Vinicius who made no mistake when Dele’s attempted pass deflected into his path shortly after the quarter of an hour mark.

Bale and Harry Winks chanced their respective arms from distance, while Ben Davies hit the outside of an upright as the traffic remained distinctly one-way, but with Tottenham’s dominance so evident it came as little surprise when Dele cut back for Vinicius to add a second, this after Plamen Iliev had palmed away Tanguy Ndombele’s initial attempt.

Matt Doherty almost provided Bale with a third shortly after the restart – Iliev using his frame to snub the Welshman from close range. But when a third goal arrived it was a moment of genius from Harry Winks. The tenacious midfielder noticed Iliev off his line and embarrassed the stopper with an inch-perfect angled effort from a considerable distance.

Lucas Moura stylishly made it four after – beating Iliev with a crisp, right-footed strike after Vinicius had turned provider.

Starlets Alfie Whiteman, Harvey White and Dane Scarlett were handed debuts by Mourinho during the closing minutes, highlighting the embarrassment of riches at the disposal of the Portuguese chief.

Both White and Scarlett went close to adding a fifth. Tottenham Hotspur now turns their attention to the Premier League, facing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, November 29 (4:30pm).
