Braintree Vixens 12-5 Southend Saints
SOUTHEND SAINTS unbeaten start to their Eastern Counties Women’s Merit League campaign was concluded following a keenly contested encounter with a strong Braintree Vixens side at Robbswood.
Both sides went into the game defending a perfect record, however, it was the north Essex side who emerged the victors following a terrific battle.
But It had all started off so well for the Saints – Charlotte Leeman crossing the line to as the Seasiders drew first blood.
The Vixens hit back. Nicola Conquest bullied her way through for a try which was subsequently converted by Jade Worster. Conquest added her own, and the host’s second try of the afternoon to ultimately decide the game.
Speaking to Yellow Sport after the match, Saints Head Coach. Paul Bach explained: “We battled until the very end, every player giving One hundred and ten per cent.
“Despite our first-half domination, we could only score one try. Well done to Braintree, they worked us out in the second half and we had to defend for large parts.
“Without some awesome efforts, we would have conceded more tries than we did. Today was not our day and we learn and move on.”
