Woodford Green 211/8 (50.0 overs)

Leigh on Sea 214/4 (38.1 overs)

Woodford Green won the toss and elected to bowl

Leigh on Sea won by six wickets

JACK WAGSTAFF provided a swashbuckling performance with the bat finishing unbeaten on 117 – leading Leigh on Sea to victory at Woodford Green and getting their promotion party underway in earnest.

Kristen Ali ensured that the visitors didn’t have it all their won way, himself finishing unbeaten on 92 as Woodford Green posted a healthy 211/8 from their 50 overs.

However, Wagstaff provided the fireworks with a knock which included seventeen boundaries – ably assisted by Matthew Wilson, who hit 42 – as Leigh reached their target inside 39 overs and ensure Division two cricket next season.

A further nine points from their final match against Goresbrook at Chalkwell Park next Saturday, September 7 (12:30pm) will confirm top spot, although, with second-placed Westcliff-on-Sea facing Harlow in third on the adjacent pitch, a tense, dramatic afternoon will undoubtedly unfold for local cricket enthusiasts.

Points: Woodford Green 9 Leigh on Sea 20
