Wakering remain in touch despite early defeat

Wakering Walking Football Club suffered their first defeat of the season but remain in touch with the leaders after the latest round of Essex Walking Football League over 50s fixtures staged at Melbourne Park, Chelmsford.

League leaders, Cornard United Dynamos edged a close, hard-fought encounter by a goal to nil leaving the villagers with plenty to do during the days remaining matches.

However, Wakering responded magnificently by thrashing Concord Rangers Blues by four unanswered goals – Kevin Bantin rattling home an impressive hat-trick, while Dave Willis completed the scoring.

Concord Rangers Yellows provided the opposition in Wakering’s final match of the round.

Indeed, it was the Canvey-based side that enjoyed the better of proceedings, forcing Wakering goalkeeper, Walter Previ into a string of fine saves.

And the stoppers display proved crucial. Having ridden their luck, Wakering produced the ultimate smash ‘n’ grab. Willis lashing home a free-kick to secure a vital 1-0 victory, keeping Wakering within two points of the summit.
