Ward delighted with Saxons resolve

Southend Saxons RFC v Battersea Ironsides – Friendly Match – Warners Bridge – Summary

Southend Saxons 18-17 Battersea Ironsides

Josh Ward focused on another positive evening as his Southend Saxons side recovered a 17-0 half-time deficit to edge out Battersea Ironsides 18-17 in their second pre-season runout.

“It was another good run out giving a lot of our squad minutes and, for some, valuable senior rugby experience,” the Saxons Head of Rugby enthused.

“As a group, we were extremely disappointed with our opening forty. We lacked intent and purpose which lead to increased amounts of pressure.

“Battersea played really well throughout and caused us a lot of challenging moments.”

Ward concluded: “At the break, we had an honest chat. The boys were challenged to demonstrate character and resolve, which to their credit they did in abundance winning the second half 18-0.”

Southend Saxons are next in action on Friday, August 27 when Dartfordians visit Warners Bridge for a friendly fixture (8pm).
