Brentwood 8-32 Southend Saxons
DIRECTOR OF RUGBY, Josh Ward, heaped praise on his Southend Saxons side after they recorded a notable 32-8 London North One victory at local rivals, Brentwood.
Both sides went into the game having won their opening league fixture, but it was the visitors who hit the ground running to extend that sequence.
“I thought we were outstanding today,” Ward enthused.
Tactically we were spot on and showed a real desire both in attack and defence.
“The first-half was the arm wrestle we expected, playing up the slope, but we still managed to put together some good attacking rugby ourselves.
“To go in up at the break was a testament to the boys and the second half was another step up – I felt we turned the screw and scored some excellent team tries.”
Ward added: “Pleasingly, our defence stood out today. We applied a lot of pressure and suffocated what was thrown at us which showed in those closing moments.
“As a group, we wanted to make a statement this week. That was backed up by the Priors racking up fifty points at home also against Westcliff – it’s been a great day for our club”.
