Woodford 17-24 Southend Saxons
DIRECTOR OR RUGBY, Josh Ward, thought his side rode their luck but was ultimately satisfied to see them record a fifth-successive London One North victory as Woodford were beaten at Highams.
Saxons edged home 24-17 against a Woodford side looking to establish themselves following promotion last season. And it was an honest assessment from the Seasiders chief.
“We got in, we got out, in all honesty, we probably didn’t deserve the win today, but importantly the boys demonstrated incredible character,” he explained.
“Let’s credit Woodford because I felt they threw everything at us and were the better side today, but as I said we found a way.
“We want to use this as a positive moment in our season when we look back. A cold, dark November day and a last-minute try to secure the maximum – job done.
Ward continued: “We’ve got a Cup game against Chingford next week before we welcome North Walsham to Warners Bridge.
“We’re second in the table tonight so I’m happy, but the reality is there is nothing won in November.”
