Ward hoping for the perfect tonic from Saxons

Southend Saxons v Shelford – London One North – Warners Bridge – Saturday (3pm) – Preview

Josh Ward returns to the Warners Bridge dugout having undergone knee surgery and is hoping his Southend Saxons side can provide the perfect tonic with a London One North victory over high-flying Shelford on Saturday afternoon.

“I’m out the other side,” Ward joked.

“It was something that needed doing. It has been a different week. I had to isolate myself before I went in, but I’ll be back at Warners Bridge on Saturday.

The Saxons host a Shelford side that has tasted defeat just once this season: “It will be a big test,” Ward added.

“They have put a good run of results together, similarly to Sudbury. We have to put in a collective shift if we are going to compete. Sid and Mark have taken training this week – they have told me it has gone very well.

“I have been in dialogue with them. We had a zoom meeting to ensure everything was ready for the weekend.

“It is the last game of the block for us. We want to make sure we finish it off well. If we are going to be up where we want to be, these are the games we need to make sure we are winning.”
