Watson delighted with Liburd’s contribution

Hampton & Richmond Borough v Billericay Town – Vanarama National League South – Beveree Stadium – Saturday 3pm – Preview

Kevin Watson heaped praise on Rowan Liburd after the 28-year-old took on the added responsibility of the Billericay Town captaincy.

With financial restrictions forcing the Blues chief to field a combination of under 23 and non-contracted players, Liburd was handed the armband and according to the former Colchester United midfielder, Watson has responded magnificently.

Speaking after Billericay’s midweek defeat at promotion hopefuls, Eastbourne Borough, Watson enthused: “I think Rowan has been absolutely outstanding.

“You ask him to come in as a 28-year-old – almost be the ‘dad’ of the team if you like – be the coaching, management and staffs voice on the pitch. I think he’s done fantastically well.

“He’s brilliant in the dressing room. Also, I’ve let him have his say in there. I hope they look up to him.”

Liburd was on target from the penalty spot in an entertaining 4-2 defeat for the young Blues. The task doesn’t get any easier this weekend with Billericay heading to Hampton & Richmond Borough, another club harbouring play-off ambitions and currently occupying sixth place.
