Watson insistent that Billericay should be confident

Billericay Town v Chelmsford City – Vanarama National League South – Tuesday 7:45pm – Preview

Kevin Watson will be hoping to see his Billericay Town side leapfrog local rivals Chelmsford City when the pair go head-to-head at New Lodge on Tuesday evening.

Town recorded their first Vanarama National League South victory in four matches – impressively dispatching Dulwich Hamlet at the weekend. However, they will face a Clarest side themselves on the road to recovery having beaten Braintree Town and title contenders, St Albans City in recent weeks.

Nevertheless, Watson believes Saturday’s triumph should provide a shot in the arm for his new charges.

“Well, it should be a confidence booster,” the former Colchester United midfielder enthused speaking after goals from Michael Chambers and Jake Robinson has sunk the South Londoners.

“We’ve just gone and won a game 2-0 – it was an excellent performance as well. – It should be a confidence booster.

“We know no two games are the same, but if we produce what we produced in the first-half, it’s going to bode well for the season going forward. That was what I said to the lads – you’ve set your standards. You need to stick to those standards – don’t let them drop.

The Blues chief added: “There will be games where we won’t be as good as that. Like I said, first-half, outstanding with the football – second-half, I thought, really good without it.

“The endeavour and work-rate. They looked a bit fitter today. We went for longer in the game where we didn’t sink so deep. But it’s a good start for everyone involved.”
