Westcliff-on-Sea ended Old Southendian & Southchurch’s unbeaten Division Three start to the season with a 57-run victory at Chalkwell Park which saw them leapfrog their local rivals into the promotion places.

Dylan Batt took four for 25, while Ahsan Yousaf and Hardik Varma had 10-0-28-3 and 10-4-22-3 respectively as the Old Boys dismissed the home side in the penultimate over for 190. Charlie Lockhart top-scored for Westcliff with 38 off 68 balls.

But that proved ample. Muhammad Farooqi led the way superbly with 10-5-8-4, while Joe Robbins and Prin Patel each took two as the Old Boys lost wickets at regular intervals. Hafiz Yawer Afzal (33) and Ahsan (25) did their utmost but all to no avail as they fell some way short of their target.

Old Southendian & Southchurch 2nd were five-wicket Division Eight winners over Colchester and East Essex 2nd at the Peter Butler Oval, Garon Park.

Sam Hodgson took three for 29 as the visitors were restricted to 140. Mohammad Aqeel’s unbeaten 45 went some way towards their victory inside 31 overs.

Old Southendian & Southchurch 3rd thrashed their Walthamstow counterparts by 107 runs in a one-sided Division Thirteen clash at Shoebury Park.

Sandeep Muraleedharan batted brilliantly for his 113, helping the home side to 220 for five. Chris Pastfield had three for 25, while Max Redfearn and Ethan Richardson claimed two each to help their side home with some to spare.

Old Southendian & Southchurch 4th and 5th teams met in a low-scoring Division Eighteen match at Shoebury Garrison.

The 5ths were bowled out for 81 with only Rob Garwood and Kevan Pratt reaching double figures. Declan Dear returned 8-3-15-4 for the 4ths.

The 4th team chased down their target for the loss of three wickets in just fourteen overs. Callum Powrie top-scored with 35.
