Skipper Tom Westley helped Essex recover after Brett Hutton-inspired Nottinghamshire had threatened to establish a stranglehold on day three at Chelmsford.

Westley’s 71 came off 174 balls and brought calm after the hosts had been reduced to 15/3 responding to Notts first innings total of 248.

Hutton took 3/48, while Liam Patterson-White chipped in with 2/37. However, having lost the second day in its entirety due to the inclement weather conditions, the most likely outcome for this top of the table clash is now a draw.
