Paul Wells took the individual goalscoring plaudits with a four-goal salvo for Wakering against Grays Athletic during the lastest round of Essex Walking Football League over 50’s matches staged at Chelmsford City’s Melbourne Park.
The one-time Southend United and Stambridge player led the way with a well-taken quartet which was, complemented further by strikes from Kevin Bantin and Dave Willis.
Grays had no answers to the villagers crisp, pass and move game – Wakering eventually running out comfortable winners by six unanswered goals.
Eastwood Falcons provided stiff resilience in Wakering’s second game of the round. Despite pressing hard, Wakering was unable to find a way through. Bantin passed up an opportunity from the spot – firing over following dangerous play on the edge of the area from the Falcons. A goalless draw ensued.
Wakering felt frustrated by inconsistent officiating in their final match – a hotly-contested derby with Garon Park.
Mike Allpress gave Garon’s the lead and Wakering’s frustration’s heightened when two of their players found themselves sidelined due to blue card offences.
However, Wakering’s four men dug deep – Bantin rescued a share of the spoils and maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
Wakering sits two points behind league leaders, Cornard United Dynamos who they face in the next round of fixtures.
