Wickford man charged with burglary and theft

A man has been charged in connection with a burglary where £3,000 worth of perfumes and aftershave were stolen.

Officers working on an operation in Basildon town centre, which utilises uniformed and plain clothed officers, arrested a man on Tuesday September 28 on suspicion of theft from a shop.

Following further investigation, the man was also later further arrested in connection with a burglary at Savers in Wickford High Street on Monday September 27.

Matthew Cook, 39, of Market Avenue, Wickford, has now been charged with burglary and theft from a shop.

He is due to appear at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on September 30.

Officers have recovered the items stolen from Savers.
