Rayleigh Windmill hit hyperspace as it launched back into action with its first civil ceremony since the coronavirus lockdown.
The small ceremony, which was originally due to take place earlier in the year, comprised of a distinguished guest list from a galaxy, far far away. It included Princess Leia, Han Solo, Obi-Wan Kenobi and even an Empire stormtrooper.
The council were also on board to ensure that measures were put in place for the safety of the happy couple, guests, staff and registrars.
The Star Wars theme was the bride’s idea for her husband’s love of the Star Wars series. They are going to have a mud run in their formal attire and a bigger celebration when they are able.
Dominique (Princess Leia) and Matt Sellors (Han Solo) said: “Nobody could have predicted what the year 2020 would bring. We had booked our wedding for April and five weeks before it was cancelled due to COVID.
“We put it back to May 4 (Star Wars Day), after which the government extended lockdown meaning we had another wedding cancelled. We booked for July and as luck would have it, the government announced weddings could start from the day before we’d booked.”
Rochford District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community, Cllr Mike Webb, said: “It’s really heartening to see the happy couple finally able to celebrate their wedding and the council is honoured that they have chosen to do so in one of the galaxy’s most iconic venues.”
