Woman sentenced for stealing nearly £4,000 of skincare and perfume products in Chelmsford

A Chelmsford woman has admitted stealing over £3,900 of skincare products and perfume from a Chelmsford city store.

Julie Robinson of Melbourne Avenue, Chelmsford, stole perfume, facial moisturisers and other skincare products from John Lewis on 12 occasions between September 4 2023 and February 3 2024.

She admitted all the offences plus an attempted theft from the same store in Bond Street when she appeared at court on February 14.

The 52-year-old was sentenced at a hearing at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Monday May 13 when she was ordered to complete a community order and a six-month rehabilitation order, as directed by the court.

Furthermore, she was ordered to pay £3,553 in compensation and additional costs.

Acting Sergeant Jack Dodd said said: “The Chelmsford Town Team investigated the series of thefts, trawling through many hours of CCTV footage to capture the evidence they needed to identify Julie Robinson and arrest her.

“As part of sentencing, she is now subject to a one-year exclusion requirement meaning she won’t be able to enter the store for 12 months.
